Spinning Yarn for a Sweater

I am not what you would call an expert spinner as I've really only been spinning for a year and a half and my yarn tends to have a "handmade" look to it. Because of this, I usually just spin 100 grams at a time for the fun of it, and usually make a pair of socks or a hat out of the yarn that I get. I decided to challenge myself this time, however, to actually make a sweaters worth of yarn in a specific weight for a pattern I want to make. I'm really excited because the singles are looking really even, and I'm almost done!

I'm pretty excited to get this yarn spun up and dyed, and to get to start knitting this new sweater!

A Curious New Friend

The other day I decided I wanted to take some photos for the "about me" section of this blog as I really don't have any recent photos of me that I could use. My husband agreed to help me out by taking the pictures, and we walked to a nearby park with a pond that I thought would kind of be a nice background for the pictures.

After we got a few good pictures, a bunch of geese (or a gaggle of geese?) swam around the pond over to where we were. Now, being in Canada, I'm pretty used to seeing Canadian Geese, but they don't usually go very close to people if they can help it. These geese, however, seemed a little more relaxed, and one of the little goslings was actually curious enough to slowly wander over to where we were sitting!

He slowly wandered over, trying to pretend he was just casually eating some grass, not up to anything.

As he got closer he was really trying to keep up the act that he was just eating some grass (even though there really is no grass there) and his Mom and Dad kept an eye on him to make sure he wasn't going too far.

Until finally it was time for them to move on, so they called him back, and they all swam away.

Flower Cabled Socks WIP (And a little Rain)

This summer has had far more rain than any other summer I can remember. Compared to the record breaking cold winter we had it's not too intolerable, but it's to the point that a thunderstorm is not a surprising thing to happen every second or third day.

While most of the plants on my patio are absolutely loving this new concept of being consistently watered, all of this rain has been keeping me mostly indoors. The only upside to this, I suppose, is that I haven't slowed down my knitting the way I usually do in the summer time.

Lately I've been working on a design for a pair of pretty little socks that have tulips running up the front. I'm basically done designing them, and I now get to actually work on knitting them up, which has been enjoyable. I will say that this yarn I grabbed is way too dark for a detailed cable pattern, but I'm thinking I'll re make them in a lighter colour once I'm sure that the design is exactly what I hoped it would be.

I love how the cabled flowers look going up the front of the sock and the way the little twists interlock the flowers together. ^^ This stitch design is so beautiful and I was so excited when I first saw it. I knew right away I had to make something with it.

Hopefully we'll get some sunshine soon, but for now, at least I'm on my way to a new pair of socks.
